Just a success report:
Since kernel 2.6.27 and my oldish HP laptop which serves as server for my "couchtop" subnotebook are in love again (I had overheating since kernel 2.6.24) I reverted a sidux chaos installation, running on Debian etch kernel, getting security updates from Debian, having installed some packages from backports, Mepis and Kanotix Thorhammer (!!!) back to sidux/Sid. And what? Not one oops, the distupgrade (more than 1 GB download) ran through without problems. For nvidia: I need old 96.53* drivers, and I need the beta (?) 96.53.07. sgfxi did the job perfectly. Good ol' Debian is really a charming system. hubi |
