Google doubles the size of their index

After nearly a year of waiting, Google has finally fixed whatever was wrong with their system. After being stuck at 2^32 pages, about 4.2 billion for the last year, on November 10 they finally got their new systems online.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the so called 'sandbox'.

Google now shows > 8 billion pages indexed.

And MSN is going live with their beta search engine on November 11. Somehow I don't think the timing was a coincidence.
