Scaling Apache 2.x beyond 20,000 concurrent downloads

Very good read on apache 2 advanced tuning on linux 2.6 [pdf file].

The title says it all.

Very interesting analysis, in this case the system in question is dual xeon 2.4 gig server, with 12 gig of ram running debian 3 with the 2.6 kernel.

I'd be particularly interested in seeing how that load is handled with freebsd on 64 bit amd.

My experience with FreeBsd servers suggests it would be pretty impressive, but you never know until the numbers come in from real world tests.
